MEET THE AUTHORS
Michael S. Hildebrand, Gregory G. Noll and Chris Hawley
Mike Hildebrand and Greg Noll each have more than 30 years experience in industry and government and have served as firefighters, hazardous materials technicians, incident commanders, and instructors. Greg and Mike are the co-founders of Hildebrand and Noll Associates, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in emergency planning and response issues. Their experience and expertise includes hazardous materials, weapons of mass destruction, and operations security. They are both Certified Safety Professionals and serve on the NFPA 472 Technical Committee on Hazardous Materials Response.
Our project team has a very broad experience in developing and delivering multi-media training programs for industry and public safety. Over the last ten years we have shared our emergency response experience by writing six books on hazardous materials emergencies. We have over 100,000 copies of our books in circulation within the emergency services community. Our primary text, Hazardous Materials: Managing the Incident, is in its third edition and is the baseline text used by the majority of the Hazardous Materials Response Teams in the United States to train Hazardous Materials Technicians and HazMat Incident Commanders.
During our careers we have served as technical consultants on numerous hazardous materials training programs. We have served as technical reviewers for the development of 35 different training films produced by the Emergency Film Group. We have also provided on-camera narration for six Emergency Film Group training films and 20 special broadcasts for the Fire and Emergency Television Network (FETN).
As instructors, we have developed and delivered over 50 Hazardous Materials Technician training courses, over 140 Incident Commander training programs, and have delivered over 500 lectures nation-wide on hazardous materials safety.
Chris Hawley has twenty-one years experience in emergency services. He currently serves with the Baltimore County (Maryland) Fire Department, where he has held positions as a firefighter, training instructor, and as the department’s Hazardous Materials Coordinator. Prior to joining the Baltimore County Fire Department he was a Hazardous Materials Response Specialist with the City of Durham, North Carolina Fire Department.
Chris has designed many innovative training programs in hazardous materials and response to terrorist incidents. He speaks on a regular basis at national conferences on these topics and has assisted in the development of programs provided by the Baltimore County Fire Department, Baltimore City Fire Department, Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI), Maryland Department of the Environment, the Maryland State Police, National Fire Academy, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as private industry.

Through CRA he continues to serve as a course manager for regular class deliveries of the Operations, Tactical Operations, and Technician courses. He serves as a course manager for hazardous materials training programs for the specialized assets of the FBI and is the course manager for the FBI SWAT Hazmat programs.
